About Genetic Counseling |

Huron Valley Genetic Consulting was founded in 2005 by Shannon Wiltse, a certified genetic counselor. HVGC’s mission is to make genetic counseling available to everyone at affordable prices. In addition to being affordable we want you to be able to get an appointment quickly and at a time that is convenient. All of our genetic consultations are performed by phone with a genetic counselor who is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. This means the counselor has a Master’s degree from an accredited university and has passed the board certification exam.
At HVGC we believe everyone could benefit from a genetic consultation. Here are some common reasons why people might seek a genetic consultation
· An individual with a family history of cancer who would like to know their risk.
· A couple who wants to start a family and would like to know their chance of having a child with a birth defect.
· A man or woman has a family history of a genetic disease and wants to have testing to determine if they are a carrier.
· A couple using a sperm or egg donor wants to know for which genetic diseases the donor should be screened.
· A man or woman experiencing infertility wonders if there might be a genetic cause. |
